One of the earliest scientists worldwide to engage in deuterated drug research

Changfu Cheng, Ph.D., founded X-Cutag Inc. in 2017 and serves as Chairman and Chief Scientific Officer. He also established AcuMed Innovations®, an AI-enabling platform for precise and accelerated drug R&D. Recognized globally as one of the earliest pioneers of deuterated drug research, he has made foundational contributions to the field. Currently, Cheng drives the company’s scientific strategy through designing proprietary pipeline roadmaps for oncology and metabolic diseases, harnessing advanced analytics to accelerate data-driven development, and building high-performing global teams across U.S. and Asian operations. 
Prior to X-Cutag, Cheng co-founded Concert Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ: CNCE). During his tenure as Director of Bioanalytics, he led the evaluation of 600+ molecules, contributed to 100+ patent applications, and elucidated the metabolic pathways of over 200 compounds. These efforts supported multiple FDA-approved drugs and established the first industrialization framework for deuterium technology. 
Earlier in his career, Cheng started his professional drug research career at Bayer and Cubist Pharmaceuticals, where he focused on drug metabolism and pharmacokinetics (DMPK). After departing from Concert, he began his entrepreneurial leadership by founding NeuForm Pharmaceuticals. He later acquired TDM Pharmaceutical Research, further extending his impact as a serial innovator in precision therapeutics. 
Cheng earned his Ph.D. in Bioanalytical Chemistry from Washington University in St. Louis under Professor Michael L. Gross, a leading figure in mass spectrometry.He has authored 20+ publications in journals including JASMS and Analytical Chemistry, and holds numerous patents in novel drug design.
